"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV

About Us
Texas' Special Kids has grown into a ministry out of the personal experiences of Doug and Patsy Arnold. The Arnolds are professional educators who have chosen to educate their three children at home. In the spring of 1996, God called Patsy to quit her job as a high school Spanish teacher to home school their eldest child.

The Arnolds' eldest child, Aaron* is the Arnolds' gifted child. Their middle child, Brent, is the one who has taught them about special needs. As an infant, Brent had a severe reaction to an immunization that caused a rare seizure disorder, Infantile Spasms. Misdiagnosed for two months as acid reflux, Brent was treated and healed of the seizure activity. While the seizures have not returned, the residual effect resulted in a diagnosis of Autism for Brent and the family.

The Autism label was devastating, but the grace of God carried the Arnolds on their journey of raising a special needs child. The Arnolds have committed to home schooling Brent with his siblings, including his younger sister, Cathy. The Arnold family has experienced the emotional trials, navigated the ocean of social service agencies, weathered all storms, and gained a stronger marriage. They have worked with the local public schools to gain the speech and occupational therapies Brent deserved, while maintaining education rights at home. Brent has made remarkable, miraculous progress. Today, he communicates clearly, reads, is learning to write and do math, and is a happy, well-adjusted child who is growing more "normal" with each passing day.

The Arnolds have traveled some difficult roads. Now, through Texas' Special Kids, they seek to help others by passing along what they have learned. As a couple, they are uniquely qualified through their personal, home school, public school, and special education experiences to offer advice to families traveling the same roads they have traveled and are still traveling. Their goal is to give the same comfort to families like theirs that God gave them along the way. They feel they must give back.
